3 Amazing Ground Beef Recipes In The Crockpot

As we approach winter, there’s nothing better than a hearty meal to warm us up. So today I’m sharing 3 Amazing Ground Beef Recipes in the Crockpot.

Now, as homemakers who strive to manage their households with excellence, it’s important to find recipes that are cost-efficient and save time.

That’s where the crockpot comes in. I love it. 💞

If you don’t have a Crockpot I highly recommend you buy one.

➡️ It saves electricity and therefore money 💲

➡️ It’s practical (set it up in the morning and come home to a delicious dinner in the evening) 🕓

➡️ It deepens flavours and tenderises meat, making it a perfect buy if you love stews, bolognese, and curries

I’ve actually had mine since the year I got married (2012) and aside from one of the buttons coming off (my fault), it’s in good working condition.

Now, I have to make a confession. I don’t usually make a whole meal in the crockpot because we’re now a family of 5 and my crockpot is medium-sized (Hint hint hubby! 😂)

Having said that, I can fit in a whole chicken, a pork loin, and a large amount of ground beef with sauce. Then, all I have to do is make one or two simple sides.

Actually, with ground beef (or mince as we Brits usually call it) I usually just make a pan of rice, pasta, or quinoa, and hey presto.

So without further ado, here go three fantastic ground beef recipes in the crockpot.

Ground Beef Recipes in the Crockpot

1.Chili con carne

This is an adaption of Jaimie Oliver’s chili con carne recipe for the crockpot. So here goes:

Ingredients

  • 2 medium onions
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 medium carrots
  • 2 red peppers
  • olive oil
  • 1 heaped teaspoon chilli powder
  • 1 heaped teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 heaped teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 x 400 g tin of chickpeas
  • 1 x 400 g tin of red kidney beans
  • 2 x 400 g tin of chopped tomatoes
  • 500 g quality ground beef
  • ½ a bunch of fresh coriander (15g)
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

1. Peel and finely chop the onions, garlic, carrots. Halve and deseed the pepper and then chop.

2. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large pan on medium-high heat, add the chopped vegetables, and add chilli powder, cumin, cinnamon and a pinch of sea salt and black pepper. Cook for 7 minutes stirring regularly.

3. Put the crockpot on high, and add this mixture to the crockpot.

4. Add the chickpeas, kidney beans, chopped tomatoes, ground beef and balsamic vinegar and chopped coriander stalks (set the leaves aside for later)

5. Cook on high for 4 hours or on low for at least 8.

6. When ready to serve, garnish with the coriander leaves.

Serve with rice or tortillas.

Tip: Place a plate with lime wedges, a bowl with coriander leaves, and a bowl of plain yoghurt on the table for people to add to the chilli. The lime and coriander take the chilli to the next level, and the yoghurt will make the chilli milder if those who don’t like spicy food.

2.Bolognese

I love bolognese because besides being really versatile, it’s also an easy dish to make. Bolognese is also a crowd-pleaser, and often children will eat it despite it being loaded with vegetables. 🤣

Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 2 medium onions
  • 2 cloves garlic or 2 tsp of garlic powder
  • 2 medium carrots
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 500 ml tomato passata
  • 500 g quality ground beef
  • a cup of red wine
  • a cup of beef or chicken stock
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspon of oregano / thyme

1. Chop the onions, and carrots and add to a pan with the olive oil. Stir for 3 minutes until softened.

2. Chop up the garlic and add to the mixture. (Or just add 2 tsp powdered garlic.) Stir for another 2 minutes.

3. Turn on the crockpot and add the vegetable mixture, the tomato passata, the ground beef, the stock and the red wine and give a good stir.

4. Add a pinch of salt and pepper and the herbs.

5. Leave to cook on high for 4 hours, low for at least 8. When it’s ready, taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Tip: serve with wheat pasta if you want to go down the traditional route, or healthy alternatives such as aubergine or lentil pasta if you want a low-carb version.

3. Taco meat

I adore Mexican food, and tacos are one of my favourite dishes of all time. As such this recipe had to be on here:

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp chili
  • 2 tsp Sea salt
  • 1 tsp Smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Oregano
  • ½ tsp Black pepper
  • 1 can chopped tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 2 coriander stalks
  • 500 g quality ground beef

1. Add the salt, chili, pepper, paprika, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder and oregano to a bowl and mix;

2. Add the meat to the crockpot and then the spices and mix through with a big wooden spoon;

3. Next chop up the onion, garlic and coriander stalks and add to the mixture in the crockpot

4. Finally add the tin of chopped tomatoes and stir through (if the mixture looks too dry add some water)

5. Cook on high for 4 hours or on low for at least 8. Check the seasoning and add salt if necessary before serving.

Tip: Tacos are delicious with guacamole and refried beans.
