God Is Our Refuge

This is the fourth devotion in the Holding on By Faith Devotional series: God is our refuge. Today we’re looking at seasons of life where we experience deep pain and how we can turn to God for His presence and comfort.

God is Our Refuge – Focus Verse

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1

Devotion

Sometimes we go through seasons in life where all we can feel is heartache. And in those moments, we feel like we’re alone. We can’t feel God’s presence or peace – just turmoil and despair. Our expectations and dreams for the future have been smashed into smithereens.

While our feelings may be telling us otherwise, the only thing we can do in these moments is to cling on to Truth about God. God is our refuge and our strength. God is a present help in trouble.

Don’t know how to cling on to these truths and be set free from your feelings of abandonment and fear? Turn to God. Ask Him to make His presence real to you now. Because it’s true. God is with you. (Hebrews 13:5)

Cling to God today, mama, and claim the truth of His promise to never leave you. Ask Him to comfort you in the pain you are experiencing. Because His Spirit is your comforter. (John 14:26)

Questions for reflection

  • Is the strife you’re experiencing causing you to question God’s goodness and presence?
  • Do you need to make room in your schedule to process your pain with God and receive His healing?

Prayer

Lord, thank You that You are present with me now. Thank You that You are my comforter. My refuge. My strength. Lord, come now and comfort me. Holy Spirit, come and release me from these feelings of pain and overwhelm. Lord, I surrender to You!
