Do Not Fear

This is the second devotion in the Holding On By Faith Devotional Series: Do Not Fear. Today, we’re looking at the character of God and His heart of compassion toward us.

Focus verse

“Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will also help you, I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Devotion

God is with you. He will strengthen you. No matter what struggles you’re experiencing. Don’t be anxious. Don’t be afraid. God will help you. He will uphold you.

These are all truths. Truths I am speaking over myself. Truths I am speaking over you.

When we experience hard seasons, the enemy lies to us telling us God has abandoned us. Or that God is with us, but He wants us to work things out on our own. In this paradigm, God takes a passive approach to our day-to-day lives.

Neither of these are true! God’s word shows us again and again that He loves to rescue and help those who belong to Him. He is not weak in compassion, neither does He expect us just to work everything out on our own. Yes, there may be things we are called to do, but God has sent His Spirit to help us. Not only that, but God has given us His Spirit, not based on our performance, but on His grace.

So, no matter what you are experiencing today, turn to God in prayer and surrender. Confess any sin that is keeping you in bondage. Cry out to Him. Ask Him to empower you. Ask God for His love that casts out all fear.

Questions for reflection

• What lies have you been believing about God as you’ve been experiencing troubles of many kinds?
• Find verses in the Bible that show God’s desire to help those who belong to Him. Write them down and reflect on the character of God.

Prayer

Lord, thank You that You are God, and You are with me. Thank You that You’ve sent Your Spirit to be my comforter and helper. I confess my sins to You. Forgive me for grieving Your Spirit. Although I am weak, You are strong. Help me Lord! I surrender to Your will. Amen.
