Focus verse

Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:31-33 

Devotion

Putting God’s Kingdom first is about trust. It’s about trusting in God for financial provision and not letting ourselves be consumed with money. It’s about trusting in God for rest and not being anxious over our comfort. It’s about trusting in God for fulfilment and not falling prey to entertainment addiction.

As mamas, it’s tempting to believe the world’s message that we need to pursue self-care as a way of finding true fulfilment, rest, and joy. Or that we need to seek after well-paying careers, in order to get the money we need to be happy. Or even that we can only find purposeful work in doing that which the world considers worthy.

But God calls us to put His Kingdom first, to live for Him. To work purposefully in the things He calls us to do: to preach the Gospel, to make disciples, to teach His word to others, to encourage the body of Christ, to raise our children according to godly principles. And most of all to love Him. He is the only One who can truly fulfil us. 

Questions for reflection

• When the world says you need to pursue self-care or a certain career in order to find true fulfilment, what truth can you apply to your mind? 
• What are you currently doing which you know is part of God’s plan for you? Is God showing you to change the frequency, or the motivation behind it? 

Prayer

Jesus, help me to work purposefully in Your kingdom above all. Help me preach the Gospel, make disciples, and teach others Your word. Help me raise my children according to Biblical principles and help us live missionally, knowing that You, Lord, want us to tell others about Your great love. Help us, Lord, not to live for money, for entertainment, for worldly recognition, but to live for You first.
