Teach Us To Number Our Days

From the Redeeming Time Devotional Series

Today I’m sharing devotion number three in the Redeeming Time Devotional Series: Teach Us To Number Our Days.

Here goes today’s devotion on this Blog and on the Podcast.

Teach Us To Number Our Days – S2 E3

Focus verse

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12

Devotion

I don’t know if you’ve ever heard the song Who am I by Casting Crowns, but there’s a part of the song, which I actually shared on my personal Instagram account the other day, that goes like this:

I am a flower quickly fading,

Here today and gone tomorrow

A wave tossed in the ocean

A vapour in the wind

Still You hear me when I’m calling

Lord, you catch me when I’m falling

You’ve told me who I am

I am Yours.

The lyrics from this song tie in well with today’s focus verse, which is about numbering our days. The psalmist actually states that numbering our days leads to a heart of wisdom. Now, to me, the wisdom he’s talking about comes from being aware of how short our life is here on earth. And when we understand how brief life is, we look at how we can make the best use of our time. It’s about redeeming our time well. As Christian mums, I believe it’s important we make the best use of the time when our children are little to shape their faith and point them to God.

Questions for reflection

  • How does God want you to use your time with our children while they’re little?
  • How can you make the most of this time of your children’s lives to point them towards God and His eternal truths?

Prayer

Thank you, Lord God, that you are good, and you never change. We know that our time here on earth is fleeting. We’re here one day and gone the next. But Lord you have a purpose for us as mums. You want us to teach our children more about You, to teach them the Gospel. I pray You would give us the ability to share the Gospel, share the truth with our children and to keep focused on what’s really important. Help us redeem our time well and help us have wisdom from You and to know how we can use our time wisely to teach our children eternal truths. Amen.

Amen.
