We Are Free In Christ

This is the fifth devotion in the Holding On By Faith Devotional Series: We Are Free In Christ. Today we’re exploring the area of holding on to truth about ourselves and our future, when the enemy tries to sow seeds of doubt in our minds.

Focus verse

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1

Devotion

Jesus has purchased my freedom. He has purchased your freedom. We are free!

Isn’t this a beautiful truth? A truth we can dwell on today, even as we experience struggles and hardships of many types.

The truth is that one of the enemy’s strategies to defeat us is to sow seeds of doubt in our minds. He wants us to believe that we are trapped in our situations. Or that things will never improve. Or that we are doomed.

Mama, today I want to invite you to examine your thoughts. Are they according to God’s truth, or are they lies the enemies has been planting in your mind?

To expound on some truth from Scripture, let’s talk about who we are and what awaits us in the future.

We are free in Christ (Galatians 5:1). It is no longer us, but Christ who lives in us (Galatians 2:20). We will share in Christ’s glory (Romans 8:17-18). Awaiting for us is a bright and glorious future in communion with Christ on the new earth, devoid of all sickness, death and pain. (Revelation 21:1-4)

The truth is, we need truth! The truth sets us free. So, next time you feel discouraged or in despair, mama, take captive every thought and bring it into obedience to God and His truth.

Questions for reflection

  • When you feel down or discouraged what thoughts are you believing about yourself and your situation?
  • What truth from God’s word most encouraged you today?
  • Go back and highlight truth from today’s devotion, and meditate on it.

Prayer

Lord, I surrender my thoughts to You now. Reveal Yourself and Your Truth to me in a fresh way. Help me not to know the truth only in theory, but to also apply it to my thoughts when I experience doubts and temptations. Thank You that I am free in You. Thank You that a glorious future awaits me, because You have purchased my freedom. Amen!
