A Divided Heart – A Christian Poem

Hello, friend! Today I’m sharing a poem called A Divided Heart.

This poem is about the divided man (or woman) as described by Paul in his letter to the church in Rome. (Romans 7:14-25) It’s about our often conflicting desires – a desire for God and all He gives, and a desire for fleshly pleasure.

So without further ado, here goes:

A Divided Heart

A desire for joy abundant and free

A desire for soul-destroying pleasure

We loathe and love the shackles

We desire freedom

Yet we cling to our inequities

Jesus calls us to surrender

To relinquish control

To abandon our lives

To lose ourselves

He shows us again and again

There is freedom in His arms

Abundant life, flowing waters

Finally we understand

How colourless our existence without Him

How much pain our shackles bring

In that moment, space, and time

As we abandon ourselves,

We see the King of Glory
