He Gives Strength To The Weary

From the Rest in God Devotional Series

Today I’m sharing devotion number four in the Rest in God Devotional Series: He Gives Strength To The Weary. The focus verses (there are actually 3) come with a promise from God to give us strength when we put our hope in Him.

Isn’t that amazing?

Here goes today’s devotion on this Blog and on the Podcast.

He Gives Strength To The Weary – Podcast S1 E4

Focus verse

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:29-31

Devotion

We all have bad days. Days when we feel discouraged. Days when we feel tired. Days when we feel frustrated.

I had one such day a couple of weeks ago. I was frustrated because I had created expectations that did not come to pass. I was tired because I’d been pouring into my work and had taken little time to rest. I was discouraged because I couldn’t see the fruit of my labour.

But God, who is rich in mercy, restored my strength. I put my hope in Him and I found that yes, sometimes things didn’t go according to my plans, but God knew what was best. And yes, sometimes I got discouraged because of not seeing the fruit of my labour but God was testing my obedience. The fruit was up to Him – my part was to simply obey. And yes, sometimes I got tired from my work, but God offered me rest. All I needed to do was let go of control and trust Him that His purposes would prevail even when I rested from my labour.

I don’t know what your particular situation is, momma, but I hope and pray that you too will find rest in God in the midst of your tiredness, frustration and discouragement.

I’d also like to encourage you from God’s word that when we hope in God, He restores our strength, and we will soar on wings like eagles, we will run and not grow weary, we will walk and not faint.

Questions for reflection

  • What recent situations have caused you to feel discouraged, frustrated or tired?
  • What truths about God do you need to apply to these situations?

Prayer

Thank you, Father God, for your promise of rest as I put my hope in you. Help me Lord to let go of my discouragement, frustration and tiredness as I acknowledge that You are good, holy, sovereign, powerful, loving. Help me remember again and again that you cause all things to work together for the good of those who love you, those who have been called according to Your purpose.

Amen.
