If We Ask Anything – S7 E5
Focus verse
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” 1 John 5:14-15
Devotion
God will give us what we ask for? Yes! When we ask according to His will.
If we ask for spiritual wisdom, we know God will say yes! If we ask for joy amid tribulation, we know He will say yes. If we ask for provision for our needs, we know God will say yes!
Now, though God says yes to everything that we know is His will to give us because it’s clear in His word—the fruit of the Spirit, for instance—there are things that come up in our lives that we may not if they are God’s particular will for us. For example, a new job, or house.
When that happens, we can take these situations to God in prayer and ask for His direction. That doesn’t mean we’ll get His direction instantly. But we can trust that as we surrender to Him, God will show us the way forward, one step at a time.
When it comes to our children, we can also trust that when we pray for them according to God’s will, He will answer our prayers. If we ask for our children to grow in faith and the knowledge of God, we can trust our Father to answer.
So, mama, no matter what your past experience is with fallible people, I want to encourage you to trust God. When we pray according to His will, He hears our prayers and grants us what we ask of Him!
Questions for reflection
- What things have you been bringing to God in prayer? Are they God’s will?
- If so, how can you keep trusting that God will say yes to your prayers even when there seems to be no answer?
Prayer
Lord, forgive me when my faith is weak. Thank You that You are all-powerful and You shine brighter than the sun. Thank You that You are faithful and You cause all things that are Your will to come to pass. Father, you are not limited by my past experiences, or by other people’s failures. You are God and You can do all things. Help me, Lord, to trust in You. Help me believe in Your goodness and power. Thank You for your amazing will. I trust You, Lord. Amen!
