Trust In The Lord With All Your Heart

Hi, mama! Today I’m sharing a devotion about the importance of trusting in God and submitting our ways to Him.

This is a super importance aspect of the Christian life, and I pray we would all grow in trust and surrender, and teach our children to do the same.

So let’s jump right in.

Trust In The Lord With All Your Heart

Focus verse

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Devotion

As human beings we often lean on our own bird’s-eye view of things when we think about the future. We see limits; not possibilities. We think that certain things can only come about in very specific ways.

For instance, in our worldly mindset we think that to gain money, we need a secure job. Or that we will only ever be happy if we have entertainment, technology and holidays abroad. Or that to gain an audience for our business, we need to give our full energy to social media. Or even that to make disciples, we need to follow certain successful strategies that worked for other Christians.

BUT GOD

His ways are Higher than our ways. Where we see limitations and fixed ways, God sees His own power to accomplish what to us seems impossible.

Grow in Trust – submit all your paths to God

While we dwell on our superficial wants and needs, God wants to meet the deepest needs of our souls and He promises to provide for us abundantly as we put His Kingdom first (Philippians 4:19, Matthew 6:31-33, Matthew 7:11).

While we believe that certain outcomes require specific actions (job = money; social media = audience; entertainment = joy) the Creator of the Universe knows how to provide what we really need and He is not limited to certain strategies or plans. He provides for our needs, not based on our merit (we don’t deserve it), but on His beautiful grace.

One thing that helps me personally to trust in God is to remember that as the Creator of the Universe, He has unlimited wisdom and power, and being out of time, He can see the end from the beginning.

When I reflect on the fact that God has the power to move the hearts of people, even those who do not know Him,  I know His sovereignty and I grow in faith. When I realize that all resources ultimately come from Him, I know I can trust Him for my financial needs.

I believe that as we lean not on our worldly understanding and reasoning, and we surrender to God, and put His kingdom first, we will receive the full abundance of everything He desires to give us. We will discover that He is a God of miracles. He is a God of grace. We cannot control God. All we can do is surrender, and trust Him.

Grow in Trust – read God’s word and get to know Him

Questions for reflection

  • What areas of your life do you try to control instead of surrendering to God?
  • What truths about God can you use to help you grow in faith and trust?

Prayer

Lord, I pray You would bless me Lord. Bless me, Lord, with more faith and trust in You. Help me to let go of worldly ways of thinking, and relinquish my own thoughts of what I need to be happy. Help me to know You as Father, and remember that You know my heart’s deepest needs, and You desire to meet them, in Your way, in Your timing. Help me Lord to surrender my paths to You. May I put Your kingdom first, even if to the world it looks crazy! Help me surrender all at Your feet. And experience your peace beyond understanding.
