How To Clean The Fridge – 7 Hacks
So I’ve covered how to clean the oven, the microwave and the dishwasher, so today it’s the fridge’s turn.
The fridge is one of my least favourite appliances to clean as I just don’t like cleaning up spilt liquids and grotty leftovers.
However, I’ve found that cleaning the fridge doesn’t have to be a completely unpleasant job. The secret is to find an efficient cleaning method, clean on routine and use good cleaning products.
So without further ado, here are 7 fridge cleaning hacks that have helped me, and which I believe will help you too.
Hack 1 – Soak the Drawers
Remove the fridge drawers, and leave them to soak in soapy water (washing-up liquid, such as Fairy, and hot water) in your bathtub (don’t forget to take the food out!) while you get on with the rest of the fridge.
When you’ve finished cleaning the rest of the fridge, use a microfiber cloth to get rid of any lingering stains and then rinse them off with clean water and dry them with a clean cloth.
Hack 2 – One Shelf at a Time
Remove the food from the top shelf and then clean it. (You can either wipe clean with a cloth inside the fridge or remove the shelf and clean it in a bowl with soapy water).
Rinse off any soap and dry with a clean cloth.
Put the food items back, and then go on to the next shelf or drawer.
This is a lot less daunting than taking the food out of the whole fridge all at once and then having to put it all back again after.
Hack 3 – Clean the Inside Walls and Doors of the Fridge
When cleaning/removing each shelf, clean the surrounding inside walls and doors with a cloth dipped in soapy water. Then wipe with clean water and finally dry with a clean cloth.
Alternatively, you could remove all the shelves and food from the fridge and then clean the inside all in one go.
Hack 4 – Sanitize the Fridge
After cleaning your fridge with soapy water and rinsing it off, consider spraying some anti-bacterial spray or a bleach spray cleaner to disinfect the shelves, inside doors and walls of the fridge.
Hack 5 – Discard old Food
While you’re cleaning the fridge, look for any items that need to be chucked: old beans in a jar, leftovers that have been in the fridge for over four or five days, jam that has mould in it.
Hack 6- Clean the Packets/Bottles
If you notice any packets or bottles that are dirty on the outside, give them a clean with a cloth dipped in soapy water, and then dry them before placing them back in the fridge.
Hack 7 – Clean the Outside Doors
If you have a stainless steel fridge, clean the outside doors with a stainless steel cleaner.
If you don’t have stainless steel doors simply mix a cup of water with a few teaspoons of washing-up liquid and clean with a cloth.
If you find stains, rub the washing-up liquid solution into the stain in small sections and then rinse off with clean water. Dry immediately with a clean cloth.
That’s it for today.
